What is TENS and how does it work?
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation or known as TENS is the application of electrical currents through the skin that assist with pain relief.
Tens works by sending an electrical current into your body through electrode pads, these pads stick onto your skin and are connected wirelessly or wired to a Tens Machine. Once the electrical current is in your body, the current helps release endorphins and enkephalin (a natural occurring brain chemical) and other chemicals to stop pain signals to the brain, effectively relieving pain.
There are some studies that say Tens Machines are best used when undertaking certain activities such as walking, chores and/or exercises. Tens is a method that is used to control pain whilst allowing those individuals to become more active, however there are customers that prefer to rest whilst using the tens machine – depending on their condition.

In Arthritis, TENS is aimed at reducing the pain for those who suffer from this condition rather altering or treating arthritis. Tens machines can also be especially useful for those who have inflammatory arthritis such as Rheumatoid Arthritis or Ankylosing spondylitis, as well as the chronic pains already mentioned such as Fibromyalgia.

How long does the TENS pain relief last?
Once you switch a Tens Machine on, have it at the right setting and have the electrodes in the right places – at the time is when the body’s natural painkiller kicks in, reducing the activity of pain-producing neurons.
For some there is no long last effect once the Tens machine is switched off, however, other customers have reported that there are a few hours of relief once the device is switched off. A lot of users have recommended not to overuse it too much as the muscles may not appreciate it, however, others have used it throughout the day and charged it up at night without any issues.
You may need to experiment to see what works for you and the length of time you use the device for. We have several Tens Machines that have settings, programs, or options for those who suffer from chronic pains.
Any feeling when using a Tens Machine?
Tens Machines deliver a small tingling sensation that can vary in intensity and this depends on the program, the device that delivers the electrical current and how the device is placed or set. Tens Units can be set to deliver bursts, pulses or constant electrical currents and this usually comes with an unusual sensation, but it isn’t anything to worry about.
